Come Visit NIU!
It really is impossible to get the feel of NIU without actually seeing it for yourself. So come and visit! The Office of Admissions coordinates campus visits, tours, and open houses. We look forward to helping you plan your discovery of Northern.
Campus Visits
Appointments are not necessary to meet with an admission counselor. Appointments are strongly recommended, however, for those who wish to speak with an academic adviser or faculty member within a particular department. Visitor parking is available on campus in a 24 hour pay lot next to the Founders Memorial Library, near the intersection of Lincoln Highway and Carroll Avenue, west of the new parking deck. (Turn north (left) at the first stop light east of Annie Glidden Road.)
Campus Tours
One-hour campus walking tours depart from the Office of Admissions, Monday through Friday, at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. throughout the year. Saturday tours are offered at 12 noon September through May. No appointment or reservation is necessary. Visitors meet in the lobby of the Office of Admissions and a tour guide leads the way. Click here if you would like to take a virtual tour of campus.
- Open Houses
Prospective students and their families can enjoy a "Welcome to NIU" general information session and meet representatives from admissions, academic programs, and student services. In addition student-led campus bus tours and NIU residence hall tours are offered. Open houses are also a good time to learn more about financial aid and housing. In addition, many departments and programs host special events or open houses of their own. For more information on open houses, visit the Office of Orientation and Campus Information, phone (815) 753-0446, or e-mail .
