As a preface for this post: I was lucky, or not, to be included in an email list that included Sal Bonanno (Bridges of RiverMist and Park 88), Steve Milner (Milner & Associates), Mayor Greg Sparrow, Michael Suhadolnik (Savannah Green), Paul Lehman (Macom Corp, Park 88), William Monat (DeKalb Sanitary District), Alderman Andy Small, Chris Doyle (Publisher, Daily Chronicle), Alderman Dave Baker, Dave Emanuelson, (DeKalb Park District), Dennis Collins (DeKalb Sanitary District), Don Robinson (President, DeKalb School Board), Dr. Brian Ali (Superintendent DeKalb Schools), Dr. John Peters (President, NIU), Ernie Pinne (City of DeKalb), Jim Connors (City of DeKalb), Joe Sosnowski (Alderman DeKalb), John Conlin (City of DeKalb), John Kelleher (Daily Chronicle), Chris Rickert (Daily Chronicle), Kris Povlsen (Alderman DeKalb), Mariann Besonen (DeKalb School District), Mike Knowlton (Alderman DeKalb), Pat Conboy (Alderman DeKalb), Paul Rasmussen (City of DeKalb), Ralph Tompkins (City of DeKalb), Ray Keller (City of DeKalb), Rich Fassig (DeKalb Plan Commission), Roger Hopkins (DCEDC), Russ Farnum (City of DeKalb), Scott Ellenberger (DeKalb Chamber), Steve Kapitan (Alderman DeKalb), Tim Struthers (DeKalb Sanitary District) and Dr. Herbert J. Rubin (DeKalb Plan Commission). It also included reporters from B95 FM, The Northern Star, The MidWeek and the Sycamore News.

The email string started as an invitation for members of DeKalb's governmental units, City staff and local media to take a bus tour of the Savannah Green project in Normal.

I decided to post the discussion as it was offered to the media and other than the Northern Star it was not published. Great job again kids!

I think you will find this discussion entertaining and informative. I asked Chris Rickert from the Chronicle if he would publish the figures from the ISBE, DeKalb School District and the Savannah Green Developer. He told me that that was not the media's job. Their job is only to quote numbers given by experts. He said he might publish them if I would write them in a letter to the editor. So I will.

One of the fascinating things that happened in this discussion was how the Big Bad Developer, who is always accused of trying to make back door deals, made the effort to include the community leaders and the media in the discussion. The School Board President always deleted the media from receiving his responses and dialogue in the discussion.
