The Winter of 2009 is beginning to look like a record breaker. At least, for me, the forecasts for more snow and more cold certainly sounds like a broken record. Such weather gives me a reason to take a pause for the cause of The Petition Walkers. I’ve pointed out the efforts of John Anderson but there are quite a few folks braving the cold getting their required signatures to run for a local office in the April 2009 elections. In DeKalb County potential candidates need to get more signatures than those in many other communities because for local elections in these parts we don’t practice the two-party system. There are no primaries to decide who the best Democrat or Republican is. Reportedly, that saves taxpayers money. But non-partisan or Independent candidates must get substantially more signatures to qualify as candidates. Those are the rules. We surely don’t want to mess with those rules otherwise official Republicans and Democrats might be more easily challenged and, considering the shape this state and nation is in, we don’t want that to happen. (Sarcasm intended). This election, in DeKalb, there is a citizen’s initiative in the works. There’s quite a few folks, including me, who want to evaluate Home Rule in DeKalb with full authority to revoke it should voters decide its been abused or just hasn’t worked as advertised some 30 years ago. Getting signatures for that petition takes longer than those of candidates. The first question almost always is, “What the heck is Home Rule?” Now before critics scream that this post is nothing more than self aggrandizement I’ll point out that I haven’t been doing much petition walking myself. My meeting schedule has been too full lately. So this post is motivated more by guilt than anything else. So my hat’s off to the local candidates braving the elements to run for office and to those for citizen initiatives. Thanks to the few who step up to serve the needs of the many. |

I am thinking its time someone recalled Pelosi and Reid and sent them to jail for their part in treason and same with Bush and Cheney. I think Obama has had more than enough of a chance to prove himself and blew it! So now that he has shown his true colors if you will kindly pardon the expression, its time to impeach HIM! Are we going to endure this guy well into his four year term? WE DON’T HAVE ENOUGH COUNTRY PATIENCE left for that! NOPE! It’s time to do the humane thing for all the nations sake and the world for that matter and impeach this sucker out of office! This UN American president that represents only himself and the filthy rich that are greedy grasping misers every bit as much as Ebenize Scrooge BEFORE he saw the error of his ways and became a humble human being again! Money and power go to peoples heads and while that is NO EXCUSE what so ever it is a reason. And our reasoning to Impeach is more than justified because these people have had their chance to open their eyes and see the harm they are doing to all of us in MISREPRESENTING each of US! Now they have to pay by being prosecuted and Impeached from their jobs and offices and especially OBAMA! Which rhyms with TRAMA! Best not wait for the other shoe to drop cause by then? There will surely be another GREAT DEPRESSION! Others have said it. I believe it! You should too! IMPEACH OBAMA! TODAY!
Comments are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.
Terie… I take it that President Obama’s honeymoon is officially over with you. That’s OK. I never gave him one in the first place because, well, its not in the budget. Revenues have declined and costs keep going up. You know the story.
I didn’t vote for Pres Obama. I walked into the booth undecided and voted for McCain purely out of respect for his sacrifices in service to this country. I had a trust issue with Mr. Obama and still do. Axelrod’s company was the PR firm that was hired by the special interests behind the anti-Illinois Constitution Convention movement. And then there is that Blagojevich thing. It just doesn’t all add up to warm and fuzzies.
But then again he was elected President. He is my President. This is my country. I’ve made the wrong vote before and it was the guys and gals that got into office despite my vote who ended up proving me wrong. And in those cases? I didn’t mind being wrong.
Make no mistake, President Obama is the new icon for change and hope. We desperately need both. And so I offer a quote from his recent speech to Congress as a glimmer of the hope and change potential that is within him.
I think we need to give him time and support to make that change happen.
So right Mac. We have become a very impatient society. Years have gone to get things the way they are right now but many are saying that 30 days should be enough to fix it? I’m troubled by that because that tells me that many do not realize how deep some of this trouble goes and what it will actually take to fix it.
I am really troubled with how the stimulus money is being handled and “not used” properly and accordingly by the many financial institutions that accepted money. This is one time where the money should have gone directly to the bottom and let it work its way up. Allow everyone to redo their mortgages, behind or not, and allow for a remarking of the market. The financial industry lowered values on properties that they held to make loans conform, well, my loan did conform until they took all of and more of the equity that I held in my house. Now they tell me I can’t take advantage of the lower interest rates because I don’t have enough personal income in my home. Give it back to me and all of my neighbors you dweebs!
I hope in due time, sooner than later hopefully, that this major problem is looked at and resolved. To me this was the biggest crime committed to homeowners. If the government has to find itself handing out money, the workers of this country would do a faster and more honest job of getting that money back into circulation then any banker would. Maybe a little bit of “trickle UP” theory would work better.
Wow, talk about some real anger Terie, could practically see the froth on your lips. I think many people are up in arms because this man, who has been likened to a political messiah as hyped for the last couple of years in the media, can’t just snap his fingers and make everything “all good”. Every one wants the quick fix, especially after years of political and financial mismanagement. Involving the concept of treason with the President is a pretty serious charge – are you actually sure of the concept? Our basic problem isn’t the President, it’s all the elected officials of Congress. They have lost touch with the people. Most are financially well off, and represent a very small group professionally – lawyers, education, and financial administrators. But, wait – they really aren’t to blame either, it comes down to us, the people. We need to demand that our officials listen to us, and acknowledge what conditions people live in. The only way to do this is to quit voting the same congressional leaders in repeatedly – this also works on all the other governmental levels, city, county, state. When people begin to take responsibility for their political involvement, take responsibility in actually voting, take the responsibility to educate themselves as to what is happening around us – meaning looking at the problem from all sides before spewing hate, and then actually get involved, then the people win at all levels. In this day and age, it’s easy to take the cheap and easy way by blaming the president, but let’s be truthful, the only person to blame is the person who abstained from voting for anyone or anything.
